This book deals with all related issues regarding hospital and public health safety in modern times. Preventive healthcare (alternately preventive medicine, preventative healthcare/medicine, or prophylaxis) consists of measures taken for disease prevention, as opposed to disease treatment. Just as health comprises a variety of physical and mental states, so do disease and disability, which are affected by environmental factors, genetic predisposition, disease agents, and lifestyle choices. Health, disease, and disability are dynamic processes which begin before individuals realize they are affected. Disease prevention relies on anticipatory actions that can be categorized as primal, primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. Public health aims to improve the quality of life through prevention and treatment of disease, including mental health. This is done through the surveillance of cases and health indicators, and through the promotion of healthy behaviours. Common public health initiatives include promoting hand washing and breast-feeding, delivery of vaccinations, suicide prevention and distribution of condoms to control the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. The book is expected to create the need for Public Health to be established in the public sector.
