Biosciences,
i.e. the branches of natural science dealing with the structure and behaviours
of the living organism were known variously as 'Natural History', Natural
Philosophy, and Natural Theology. Aging has long since been ascribed to the
gradual accumulation of DNA mutations in the genome of somatic cells. However,
it is only recently that the necessary sophisticated technology has been
developed to begin testing this theory and its consequences. It is increasingly
important for physicians who treat older persons, and for researchers on aging,
to understand how molecular biology informs clinical expressions of aging and
agerelated conditions such as osteoporosis, diabetes, osteoarthritis, frailty,
cancer, and dementia. Age is the main risk factor for the prevalent diseases of
developed countries: cancer, cardiovascular disease and neurodegeneration. The
aging process is deleterious for fitness, but can nonetheless evolve as a
consequence of the declining force of natural selection at later ages, attributable
to extrinsic hazards to survival: aging can then occur as a sideeffect of
accumulation of mutations that lower fitness at later ages, or of natural
selection in favour of mutations that increase fitness of the young but at the
cost of a higher subsequent rate of aging. The book concludes that the complex
relationship between population aging and longevity is not written in stone,
and can be modified by properly designed choices.
Brandon Parr is a famous Geriatrician. Geriatrics is a specialty that focuses on health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. There is no set age at which patients may be under the care of a geriatrician, or geriatric physician, a physician who specializes in the care of elderly people. He has completed his Undergraduate degree (Bachelors of Science) from Kuban State Medical University, Medical degree (M.D) from Ryazan Medical University, Ryazan. He has also done Residency program a 5 years of training in a general medicine in the hospital of Russia. He has acquired the additional training to obtain the Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in geriatric medicine. He has developed an expanded expertise in the aging process, the impact of aging on illness patterns, drug therapy in seniors, health maintenance, and rehabilitation. He has also done research on hospital elder life program. It is a model of hospital care. It is designed to prevent delirium and functional decline among elderly individuals in the hospital inpatient setting, HELP uses a core team of interdisciplinary staff and targeted intervention protocols to improve patients' outcomes and to provide costeffective care.
