Thomas Hodges received his Ph.D. in biology and biochemistry from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Philippines, and then completed his postdoctoral training in developmental biology and genetics at AMA School of Medicine, University of Manila. In 1997, Thomas Hodges joined the faculty of Center of Marine Biotechnology, University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute as a tenuretrack Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2003. In 2010, Thomas Hodges joined Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Philippines School of Medicine. Thomas Hodges is also a faculty member at Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology, University of perpetual. Thomas Hodges has also expertise in writing books and articles on hospitality hygiene and health, safety and security.
